It's been pretty busy here in Mersin....Matt and Kathi came to visit us last weekend. We were originally planning on going to Vienna, but with 2 kids and all of our stuff and a getting a visa for Kaan it was just easier to have them come here. We really enjoyed our time together since we only get to see them about once a year. You'll have to check out Matt or Kathi's blog for pictures as they took all of the pictures and I forgot to steal them before they left!!
Matt and Kathi left on the first day of the Kurban Bayram, which was this last Monday. This holidayis 4 days long and is special because most families sacrifice a sheep. It's in honor of when Abraham was sacrificing his first son for God and then a ram was placed on the stone in place of his son. Anyways, we were in preparation mode the week before the bayram. First we went to visit the sheep that were to be sacrificed....Ilkan enjoyed chasing them around and I had to keep him from throwing rocks at the poor animals. Ilkan also got a Bayram haircut. I'm hoping to get it cut once more before we come back to the states because he loves going with Dede to the barber shop. Easier and cheaper for me as a haircut here is like $5.
