Alacati/Cesme- Day 3

On our 3rd day in Alacati, we enjoyed another quiet breakfast and a walk around old town Alacati in the morning. The first thing we came across was a fish market where local fishermen brought in their catch to sell to the local restaurants. There were so many quiet and quaint streets filled with shops and restaurants. The entire town has so much history and personality that it was like walking through a romantic movie set.

In the afternoon we headed to Alacati Beach where Adrenaline Sports is located. This is a company that sells kite boarding equipment and gives lessons. Alacati is known for being one of the best places in the world for kite and wind surfing. While we waited for the wind to pick up we had lunch at the Alacati Beach Resort which was absolutely gorgeous and had the best food I've eaten in a long time. When the wind picked up we took a small Zodiac boat across the bay to the beach where the kite surfers do their thing. Kaan had a great time while I read a book on the beach. Since we didn't head across the bay until about 5pm, the lessons lasted until after 8pm. It was dark by the time we all loaded back into the boat to head across but there was a slight problem when the engine wouldn't start! There we were, a boat full of equipment and 9 people floating with no paddles! Apparently the gas had run out which was why the engine wouldn't start. This ended up being a good thing because if the engine would have started and we would have made it only half way across the bay I'm not really sure how we would have made the rest of the trip. The worst part was that the sun was gone and the wind was blowing and everyone was freezing. We waited for about an hour for a car to make the trip around the bay and pick us up, but we didn't finally make it home. After warming up we headed out to Cesme to eat kumru and homemade ice cream. A kumru sandwich is bread with sucuk (Turkish pepperoni), salami, kasar (Turkish mozzarella) cheese, and tomato. It was delicious!!
