Ilkan's 6th Birthday

I need to back up just a minute to write a little about Ilkan's 6th birthday. This year his birthday, August 19th, happened to fall on the first day of the holiday marking the end of Ramadan. He started out his day early with a trip to the mosque with Kaan for the Bayram Namaz or special prayer for the holiday. It was Ilkan's first time going to the Bayram Namaz and Kaan said he was great! When they came home, Ilkan was much to excited to take a short nap and so was playing with toys and watching cartoons. Around Noon we headed out with Aunt Fecir to buy his presents. He picked out 2 new pair of shoes and a new Galatasaray jersey. He also got a new school bag! Then we were off to Kaan's parents house to wish them a happy holiday! Later in the day Ilkan insisted on choosing where we would go for dinner since all of the adults get to pick where they want to go when it is their birthday. He chose to go to Iskele, which is a fish restaurant, because he wanted grouper and calamari! The restaurant is at the marina here in Mersin and there is lots of room for the kids to run around. Or, in Ilkan's case to drive around! His grandparents bought him a new battery operated car for his birthday and he spent the whole night driving around! After dinner we had a banana flavored birthday cake, per Ilkan's request. On the way home from the restaurant he rode with his grandparents and was fast asleep within minutes! All in all, a very successful birthday! Now we will be having a party with his friends sometime this week hopefully since most people are back in town after last minute summer vacations so we should have more to share!
